Boosted by Squid Game 2, the platform attracted almost 20 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2024.
This is a major symbolic milestone that the platform has just reached. The world number 1 in streaming continues its impressive expansion. And at the end of 2024, Netflix has exceeded 300 million paying subscribers!
The group revealed yesterday that it had reached precisely 301.63 million subscribers worldwide, during the publication of its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024.
Analysts had predicted that the platform would add around 9 million paying subscribers between October and December. But Netflix significantly exceeded these expectations by adding a record number of 18.91 million additional subscribers! An increase of 15.9% over one year. Dizzying figures which can be explained in particular by the release of season 2 of Squid Gamea global event, which has totaled more than 165 million views since December 26.
“Our fourth quarter schedule exceeded even our highest expectations: Season 2 of Squid Game is poised to become one of the most-watched seasons of original series, and the film Carry-On joined our list of the ten most-watched films of all time, while the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson became the most-watched sporting event on streaming. And then also, on Christmas Day, we broadcast two NFL games, which became the most viewed in history for a Christmas Day.” welcomes Netflix in a letter addressed to its shareholders, detailing the successes that led to these massive subscriptions.
In detail, Netflix attracted 4.82 million new subscribers in the United States and Canada, 5 million in its Europe, Middle East and Africa region, 4.15 million in Latin America and 4.94 million in the Asia-Pacific region.
It will be noted that this is the last time that Netflix thus publicly gives, in a systematic and quarterly manner, its total number of subscribers. The group will no longer disclose that “important steps“of its growth “as we cross them”. So next press release at 350 million?
