Zootopia 2 surpasses Vice-Versa 2 to become the biggest Hollywood animated film of all time

The Pixar hit, released in 2024, has just lost its Hollywood crown. But it is the Chinese Ne Zha 2 which remains at the top of the world’s top animated series.

This is a new historic record for Disney.

Zootopia 2 has just crossed the symbolic threshold of 1.7 billion dollars in global revenues, thus surpassing Vice-Versa 2 (1.69 billion in 2024) to establish itself as the biggest success in the history of American animated cinema (and of the Disney group at the same time).

Alone Ne Zha 2Chinese production, remains ahead in the all-time ranking, with 2.25 billion dollars in 2025. But on the Hollywood side, Zootopia 2 now reigns unchallenged.

With this score, the film also enters the very closed top 10 of the biggest global hits of all time, ranking ninth, just behind Spider-Man: No Way Home (1.9 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War (2 billion).

In a statement, Alan Bergman, co-president of Disney Entertainment, hailed a collective success:

“This record belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world, whose enthusiasm made this possible. We are immensely proud of our filmmakers Jared Bush, Byron Howard and Yvett Merino, as well as the entire team at Walt Disney Animation Studios. They have created a film that resonates deeply with audiences around the world.”

Released just before Thanksgiving, Zootopia 2 had already enjoyed a phenomenal start with $156 million in the United States and $559.5 million worldwide in five days, establishing the biggest global launch ever for an animated film in all categories. Since then, the machine has never run out of steam: 390 million dollars on American territory and especially 1.31 billion internationally. The film thus became the fastest Hollywood animated feature — and the fastest PG-rated — to reach $1 billion.

These high scores also come from the fact that the Chinese market has opened up to Zootopia. China, long cautious towards Hollywood productions since the pandemic, has given an exceptional welcome to the return of the animal metropolis: 619 million dollars to date! It is the second biggest Hollywood success in the history of the country, just behind Avengers: Endgame (632 million). The Chinese box office accounts for nearly a third of the final score of Zootopia 2
