Death of John Nolan, actor of Batman Begins and uncle of Christopher and Jonathan

He played a board member of Wayne Enterprises in the Dark Knight trilogy.

A familiar face of British cinema and television, John Nolan died this weekend at the age of 87. The circumstances of his death have not been specified.

The actor, notably seen in Batman Beginswas the uncle of director Christopher Nolan, who had cast him in several of his films. The filmmaker paid him a nice tribute in a press release published by EW:

“My Uncle John was the first artist I knew. He taught me more than anyone about the quest for truth in play and the joys of creation. I miss him terribly, but I find great comfort in my memories of him, especially those of our collaborations.”

Born in London, John Nolan began his career in 1965, making appearances in British series such as The Prisoner. He then landed a regular role in 1973 in Shabby Tiger.

But it was much later that he gained visibility among the general public, playing Douglas Fredericks, member of the board of directors of Wayne Enterprises in Batman Begins then in The Dark Knight Rises. He also made an appearance in Dunkirkanother film by Christopher Nolan.

He also collaborated with another member of the family, Jonathan Nolan, in the series Person of Interestwhere he lends his features to the antagonist John Greer.
