After Wicked, the Magician of Oz will become a TV series on Prime Video

Pop stars, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, will produce this new modern adaptation of the famous tale.

Prime Video has just announced the adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s cult novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, in the form of a series that will be titled Dorothy, named after the heroine, powered by the Pays d’Oz. It will be a rereading of the tale, which promises to shake up the collective imagination, since the creative team wishes to offer a contemporary and musical version of this timeless story.

Presented as a YOU (Young Adult) proofreading, the series will follow Dorothy Gale in his unexpected adventure in the Pays d’Oz, using the famous yellow brick road as a metaphor for choices and challenges facing young adults today.

Of course, we guess that the critical and commercial triumph of the Wicked film by Universal Pictures ($ 750 million in revenue) carried by Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (Glinda), is not for nothing. Especially since we will soon leave for the Pays d’Oz in Wicked: For Good, expected in theaters on November 21.

So who is behind this series project? Dorothy will be produced by Gina Matthews (known for 30 years if not nothing) via her Little Engine label, alongside Pop Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton stars, executive producers, who will certainly participate in writing new songs.
