Avatar 3 sets the American and global box office on fire

Timothée Chalamet and Marty Supreme are also causing a sensation.

Never bet against James Cameron.

After its timid start, we waited to know how Avatar: Of Fire and Ashes would perform during its second weekend of operation. And the answer is clear. The third part of the saga is heading towards the road to success with the scale of a toruk rushing towards its prey.

If its launch was below predictions, with “only” 88 million dollars at the US box office, far from the 133 million The Way of Water, Avatar 3 catches up with 64 million revenues, a very small decline of 28.5%, bringing its total to 217 million in 10 days.

Despite its mixed critical reception, Of Fire and Ashes is acclaimed by the public (90% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes), and this is also true in the rest of the world, where it has grossed 542 million since its release. The largest markets outside North America for the new Avatar are China (99.6 million), France (54.4 million), Germany (43 million) and South Korea (32 million).

Avatar 3 has so far raked in $760 million at the global box office. It’s worse than Avatar 2 (855.4 million) but still an incredible performance. James Cameron is already assured of becoming the first director to cross the billion mark four times in a row (after Titanic and the first two Avatar). And this is just the beginning.

With such figures, it is difficult to see how Disney could not validate Avatar 4 And Avatar 5. Cameron announced a few days ago that he would hold a press conference to tell the plot of the two films, if they were not made. Obviously, it won’t be worth it…

Meanwhile, another Disney film continues to capitalize on the holiday season. Zootopia 2 brought in another $20 million this weekend, or $320 million cumulatively at the US box office. And 1.3 billion worldwide, notably thanks to its impressive success in China.

On the third step of the podium, we find Marty Supreme. Timothée Chalamet’s original and aggressive promotional campaign seems to be bearing fruit. The film collected 17 million dollars this weekend, and even 28 million if we take into account Christmas Thursday. It’s almost twice as good as predictions, but it will have to last to hope to repay its enormous budget of 70 million, the largest in the history of A24.

Finally, the adaptation of The cleaning ladywith Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, confirms its good start with 15 million dollars in revenue for a total of 46 million. While the meta remake ofAnaconda with Jack Black and Paul Rudd takes 5th place with $14 million this weekend, and $23 million over four days.
