Isabelle Huppert spies on Virginie Efira: trailer for Parallel Stories
Vincent Cassel, Pierre Niney and Adam Bessa are also in the casting of the new Asghar Farhadi, in competition at Cannes 2026.
Asghar Farhadi is back on the Croisette with his new film, Side storiesin the running for the Palme d’Or. It will be released in cinemas on the day of its presentation at the Cannes Film Festival, May 16, and today we are discovering its trailer loaded with French stars.
Side stories is a rereading of the sixth chapter of Decalogue by Krzysztof Kieślowski, where Isabelle Huppert plays a novelist lacking inspiration who, to write her new novel, begins to spy on her neighbors: a couple formed by Virginie Efira and Vincent Cassel, as well as Pierre Niney, the latter’s brother.
Huppert’s character also brings a young man, played by Adam Bessa (the revelation of Ghosts), Who “will turn her life and her work upside down, until the fiction she had imagined exceeds the reality of all of them“, details the synospis of the film. Catherine Deneuve also makes an appearance, of which we get a glimpse in the trailer.
Side stories is the third European feature film by Farhadi, who had already shot The Past in France And Everybody Knows (with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem) in Spain. The Iranian filmmaker is a regular at Cannes, where he received the Screenplay Prize in 2016 for The Customer and the Grand Prix in 2021 for A hero.
