Ryan Reynolds wants to remake a Clint Eastwood classic
The Deadpool actor would like to remake this Michael Cimino thriller from 1974…
Ryan Reynolds wants to resurrect a piece of cinema by Clint Eastwood.
The actor, who was recently left at Marvel in Deadpool & Wolverineis preparing a reboot of the 1974 thriller, The Ducker (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot), a 70’s classic directed by Michael Cimino and worn by the duo Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges. A film somewhat forgotten by the general public, but cult for a generation of moviegoers: heist, improbable duo and dusty road.
The origin of the project comes from Amazon MGM Studios. Reynolds doesn’t just want to star in it: he produces through his company Maximum Effort, and he participates in the writing with Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson. The production would be entrusted to Shane Reid, editor of Deadpool & Wolverinewho will make his debut behind the camera here.
In the original film, Jeff Bridges played Lightfoot, a young thug who steals a car without imagining that he will run into Thunderbolt, a legendary robber on the run, played by Clint Eastwood. Thunderbolt’s former accomplices believe him responsible for their failure during a burglary a few years earlier. After a tough explanation, the gang decides… to try the same thing again.
Bridges received an Oscar nomination for this role. It was also the first production of Michael Cimino, future author of Journey to the end of hell with Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken.
For the moment, no other names have been announced in the casting. No release date either. We understand that this remake could be released on Prime Video worldwide.
