First day box office: mixed start in France for live-action Moana
With just over 140,000 admissions for its first day of release, the film directed by Dwayne Johnson did significantly less well than Lilo & Stitch last year.
The live-action remake of Moana topped the French box office for its first day of release. The Disney film attracted 140,000 spectators in 607 cinemas, an average of 231 admissions per theater.
A solid launch, but far from the performance of the original animated film, which exceeded 300,000 admissions on its first day in 2016.
The score is also lower than that of Lilo & Stitchwhich attracted nearly 260,000 spectators to the same stadium last year, despite competition from Mission: Impossible. He ended his national career with more than 5 million admissions.
Dwayne Johnson, who reprises his role as Maui, nevertheless dominates the new releases of the week and far distances his competitors.
Behind him, Evil Dead Burn achieved a more discreet start with 22,000 admissions in nearly 300 cinemas. The sixth part of the horrific saga, however, allows French director Sébastien Vaniček to do slightly better than his first feature film, Verminwhich attracted around 20,000 spectators for its launch in 2023. This is, however, slightly less than Evil Dead Rise which started at 26,000 tickets in 2023 (610,000 in the end).
Finally, Heatby Stéphane Demoustier, records the weakest start for the French filmmaker. The film has had fewer than 8,000 admissions in 154 theaters (including previews), an average of 42 spectators per print. It’s far below his previous film, The Unknown of the Grande Archereleased last November, which reached 20,500 admissions (including 11,000 in AVP) at the same stage. The Girl with the Bracelet (in 2020), also started significantly better with 23,000 entries on its first day.
