Box office France: 3.5 million admissions for The Maid, 8 million for Avatar 3
After a month of domination, the Na’vi leave first place in the rankings to Sydney Sweeney.
We had to wait five weeks to see Avatar: Fire and Ash fall from his pedestal.
James Cameron cedes first place at the French box office to The Housekeeper. Paul Feig’s thriller remains very successful after four weeks of exhibition and garners more than 540,000 additional admissions, thanks to a vast combination of theaters which continues to expand (+187). Solid attendance, down slightly by only 19%. Present on more than 1,100 screens, The Housekeeper thus touches the mark of 3.5 million spectators in France, a totally unexpected score.
For his part, Avatar: Fire and Ash also garnered 500,000 additional tickets in the fifth week, in a still very large number of 1,120 cinemas. Down 28%, the film is nevertheless preparing to cross the milestone of 8 million admissions. A spectacular result for any other feature film. For Avatarit’s almost modest: The Way of Water had ended its French career with 14 million admissions in 2022.
Another hit to come close to the 8 million threshold: Zootopia 2which maintains a very solid pace after two months of operation, with a drop limited to 15%. The Disney film retains its place on the French box office podium, despite the excellent start of The Bojarski affair. The historical thriller by Jean-Paul Salomé, starring Reda Kateb, benefits from very good word of mouth and has more than 350,000 admissions in its first week, in 565 theaters. A very nice launch.
Much more difficulty for the other new features of the week.
Despite excellent reviews, 28 Years Later: Time of the Dead is satisfied with 103,000 spectators, in only 290 French theaters. This is much less than the 180,000 curious people of 28 years laterreleased last summer. Danny Boyle’s film nevertheless ended up reaching 600,000 tickets, helped by the summer holidays.
Shoulder to shoulder, Greenland: Migration achieves more or less the same score. A little over 100,000 spectators came to discover the rest of Greenland – The Last Refuge in recent days, in 386 theaters. A result much lower than that of the first opus, which started with almost 200,000 admissions in 2020, despite the restrictions linked to Covid, before exceeding 500,000 tickets sold at the end of its career.
Finally, note the honorable beginnings of Furcy, born freewhich also has more than 120,000 admissions for its first week in 339 theaters. Abd al Malik’s great historical film on slavery is mainly based on numerous previews (83,000 excluding AVP).
