This live-action Netflix version will go back to the origins of the strip and will be called… Scooby-Doo: Origins!

The origin story of the Scooby Gang is underway!

Netflix has just revealed the name of its live-action series dedicated to the beginnings of Mystery Inc. The project has started filming in Atlanta, and will be called Scooby-Doo: Origins.

To mark the announcement, the platform revealed a first photo of the main cast, in costume. We discover Tanner Hagen (The Pitt) in the skin of Sammy Rogers, McKenna Grace (Young Sheldon) as Daphne Blake, Abby Ryder Fortson (The Pitt) as Vera Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins (The Bondsman) as Fred Jones. One major absentee remains: Scooby-Doo himself. The famous Great Dane has not yet been shown, even if a clue has slipped into the image (a paw print which leaves little room for doubt.) Another name in the casting, but still off-screen: Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai), whose role remains kept secret for the moment.

The series is overseen by showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg

It will explore the beginnings of the famous Scooby Gang team: old friends, Sammy and Daphne meet up for one last summer together at summer camp. “And the two find themselves embroiled in a disturbing mystery surrounding a lost puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. A Great Dane, of course. With the help of the pragmatic and scientific Vera and the strange but irresistibly attractive newcomer Freddy, they embark on an investigation that plunges them all into a terrifying nightmare that threatens to reveal all their secrets” explains the synopsis.

Scooby-Doo: Origins is expected to be released in 2027 on Netflix.
