Pierre Deny, figure of TF1 fiction, is dead

A discreet but omnipresent actor on the small screen, he will have left his mark on several generations of viewers through his roles in Honey and the Bees, Julie Lescaut and Until Tomorrow Belongs to Us.

Pierre Deny, a familiar figure on the French small screen, died this Monday following a devastating form of Charcot’s disease, his family announced in a press release relayed by AFP. The actor was 69 years old.

A recurring face in TV dramas of the 90s and 2000s, Pierre Deny began his career in Honey and the Bees, where he played Lola’s uncle (Malaury Nataf) for several episodes. He quickly moved on to other emblematic sitcoms from the AB Productions stable, such as The Girls Next Door, before joining the more serialized universe of Sous le soleil.

Faithful to the great popular sagas of TF1, he then established himself in regular roles as authority figures. He notably became Captain Philippe Kremen in A Woman of Honor, then Captain Patrick Bertrand in Julie Lescaut, confirming his status as an essential actor in the channel’s police series.

In 2017, he joined Tomorrow belongs to us, where he played Renaud Dumaze, doctor at Saint-Clair hospital in Sète. “It is with immense sadness that we learned yesterday of the death of actor Pierre Deny who played the role of Renaud Dumaze for 7 years in Demain Nous Appartient” writes the series’ Instagram account.

More recently, he also appeared on Netflix in Emily in Paris, playing the boss of a French luxury group.
