“The Beauty is like the climax of the Ryan Murphy Universe!”
Meeting with Evan Peters and Rebecca Hall, the two stars who are leading the investigation into the creator’s new madness for Disney+.
The prolific producer of American Horror Story is back with an all-new glamorous, gory and excessive series. The Beauty is pure Ryan Murphy, without filter, which puts Evan Peters and Rebecca Hall in the shoes of two FBI agents tasked with investigating a wave of mysterious deaths hitting supermodels. While digging, they discover a sexually transmitted virus capable of transforming anyone into the perfect embodiment of beauty… A morbid and spectacular farce that questions the obsession with perfection. We met the two main stars of the cast. Interview.
FIRST: What is beauty for you?
Rebecca Hall: Beauty can mean so many different things to different people. This is something deeply subjective. And that’s what the series is basically about: wanting to achieve perfection, an absolute canon, that doesn’t make sense. It’s like chasing a chimera. The definition of beauty is constantly changing.
The Beauty is a very graphic series, sometimes even quite trashy. Is it deliberately provocative?
Rebecca Hall: Absolutely. Ryan Murphy has an incredible flair for capturing the spirit of the times, which is a matter of debate. He can take an extremely serious subject and, at the same time, transform it into something provocative, almost sensationalist, in any case subversive. This is what makes it unique. Ryan Murphy is an inherently subversive filmmaker. It’s his way of treating subjects, and that’s what makes him brilliant, I think.
Evan Peters: The series should be seen as a warning. She draws you in with that very recognizable Ryan Murphy tone that Rebecca was talking about. It’s exciting, glamorous, extravagant… and then suddenly it hits you hard.
How is this a different series than what Ryan Murphy has done before?
Evan Peters: It’s a very international series. This is the first time he has directed a series that was filmed in so many different countries, particularly in Europe. It is clearly the one with the greatest scope, perhaps the most ambitious. And then there is Rebecca, who takes her first steps into Ryan’s universe. It brings a real lightness, almost a carefreeness, a very refreshing form of confidence. I’m sure Ryan will really want to continue working with you after The Beauty…
Rebecca Hall: I totally agree with that (laughs)!
Sometimes it feels like it could have been a season of American Horror Story…
Evan Peters: Absolutely. I even have the feeling that he took a lot of themes that he explored in previous seasons of American Horror Story and compiled them in The Beauty. It’s a bit like the climax of the Ryan Murphy Universe.
The Beauty, season 1 in 11 episodes, to watch on Disney+ from January 22, 2026.
